Saroo um menino de cinco anos de idade se perde do seu irmão em uma estação de trem em Khandwa, indo parar na distante Calcutá, numa outra parte da Índia. Acaba morando na rua e passando por dificuldades, até ser adotado pelo casal australiano Brierley e indo morar na Tasmânia. Ao se encontrar em outro continente e costumes totalmente diferentes o menino enfrenta dramas sociais.

Saro, a five-year-old boy, is lost at a train station in Khandwa, heading for distant Calcutta, in another part of India. It ends up living in the street and going through difficulties, until being adopted by the Australian pair Brierley and going to live in Tasmania. By meeting in another continent and totally different customs of the boy with dramatic subjects.
